Dr. Peter Asnis, the head physician for the Boston Bruins, has released a statement explaining in detail the injury status of Team USA's Charlie McAvoy

It has already been established that Boston Bruins star defenceman Charlie McAvoy won't be playing for Team USA in the 4 Nations Face-Off final against Canada after he was admitted to hospital.
Now, the head physician for the Boston Bruins, Dr. Peter Asnis, has released more information on Charlie McAvoy's condition, detailing exactly what's wrong with him.
In the statement, released by the Bruins on X, Dr. Asnis said McAvoy sustained an injury to his right shoulder acromioclavicular joint in Team USA's 4 Nations Face-Off game against Finland on February 13.
"Upon returning to Boston, he developed increasing pain, for which he was evaluated by the Boston Bruins' medical staff. After undergoing x-rays, MRIs, and bloodwork, he was diagnosed as having an infection in his right shoulder, as well as a significant injury to his AC joint.

He underwent an irrigation and debridement procedure at Massachusetts General Hospital on February 18. He remains in the hospital, where he is being treated with IV antibiotics, and his condition is improving."
That's great news for McAvoy and fans of the Boston Bruins, but McAvoy is still out for the what should be an intense rematch between Canada and the US during the 4 Nations Face-Off final.
There is word that the Bruins aren't overly happy with how McAvoy's injury and infection were handled by US National Team doctors, which is sure to fuel discontent among team owners as they worry over whether those playing at the tournament will be able to continue on with the NHL regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The first game between Canada and the US at the 4 Nations Face-Off garnered record-shattering success among viewers in North America. Thursday's final is likely to break even more records.
