Meanwhile, the Nashville Predators fired John Hynes, who had one year remaining on his contract, with Andrew Brunette expected to be named their new head coach on Wednesday morning.
TSN's Pierre LeBrun gave an update on other vacancies around the National Hockey League and said that former New York Rangers bench boss Gerard Gallant is interested in joining the Calgary Flames.
Gallant, 59, was just five days removed from the end of the Rangers' season before the organization decided to make a change. In his first year behind the bench in 'The Big Apple', Gallant led the Rangers to a 52-24-6 record in the regular season and a trip to the Eastern Conference Final.
This season, there was a lot of hype surrounding the Rangers and expectation that they would make it back to the Eastern Conference Final or advance to the Stanley Cup Final, especially after acquiring Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane. Ultimately, the Rangers fell to their rivals, the New Jersey Devils, in seven games in the first round.
Among other names that have been mentioned for Calgary's vacancy are Kirk Muller and Ryan Huska, both of whom are currently on the coaching staff as assistants, as well as Mitch Love, who is the bench boss of their AHL affiliate.
