Connor Zary has already suffered one knee injury this season, and now the team have provided an update after a recent collision with Mikko Rantanen gave him another.
The Calgary Flames are right in the fight for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, but in their recent 5-2 loss to the Dallas Stars, they suffered another injury when Mikko Rantanen collided with Connor Zary, taking the young forwards knee out.
After missing several weeks with a knee injury earlier in the year, this seemed to be another brutal blow for the Flames young forward, as he was writhing in pain that suggested he could miss the remainder of the regular season.
On Saturday, the team gave an official update, and while a week-to-week diagnosis suggests that he could miss the remainder of the regular season, it's not quite as bad as some expected, with many believing it could be an ACL or a broken leg that would see him miss months of action.
Still, with the Flames six points out of the final spot held by the St. Louis Blues with three games in hand, they need all hands on deck to shock the NHL world and make a run at the post-season, with this latest update revealing they'll likely be without one of their most promising names moving forward.
In 54 games this season, Zary has 13 goals and 27 points, and he has shown immense improvement that makes him a key piece of the Flames core moving forward, so Flames fans will be hoping they can remain in the hunt until he returns as they look to push for their place in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
