Evgeny Kuznetsov's agency addresses leaked rumors about NHL departure
Yesterday afternoon news leaked that Carolina Hurricanes forward Evgeny Kuznetsov was interested in having his NHL deal terminated.
This news had come as a surprise to many after Kuznetsov was given a fresh start after he was traded from the Washington Capitals to the Carolina Hurricanes last year. This was supposed to be the opportunity he was looking for after multiple trade requests went unfulfilled.
Per championat.com Evgeni Kuznetsov is set to sign a 4-year contract with SKA as soon as he terminates his agreement with the Hurricanes #CauseChaos #Canes
After the news leaked, many expected Kuznetsov to be placed on unconditional waivers. Unconditional waivers would have allowed the Carolina Hurricanes to terminate his contract without penalty. This freeing him up to sign a contract with any team he'd like.
But as the deadline passed, there was no mention of him being placed on waivers. That is when other news began to surface that this deal may not have been as far down the road as many expected. While Kuznetsov may have wanted his deal terminated, it was still up to the Carolina Hurricanes to honor that request.
Today the agency that represents Kuznetsov addressed the report.
Everything is possible in our life but it's too early to talk about Evgeny Kuznetsov return to Russia @Canes
After losing multiple players in free agency, it will be interesting to see how Carolina handles the situation. At this point it's hard to believe the team is in any situation to allow him to simply walk. With free agency nearing its end stages, replacing his offense at this time would be extremely difficult.
