Logan Stankoven is now with the Carolina Hurricanes and he is absolutely thriving, but he still notes that he was shocked by the trade that moved him from Dallas.

There was plenty of chatter around the Dallas Stars around the trade deadline, and while the team landed a significant upgrade in Mikko Rantanen, it came at the expense of one of their rising stars in Logan Stankoven.
This came as a shock to the former second-round draft pick, as he heard from GM Jim Nill who had said he believed their young guys were untouchable, making Stankoven feel safe.
"I was definitely pretty shocked. Leading up to the deadline - I don't know if you had seen or not, but our GM Jim Nill was pretty confident in his words, saying, 'Our young guys are kind of untouchable,' and, 'Not really gonna trade them or put them on the trading block.'

"So hearing that, as a younger guy you feel pretty secure and safe, but that wasn't the case."

Stankoven was performing on the ice too, posting 9 goals and 29 points in 59 games played while in the Stars bottom-six, but ultimately, when the deal came around for Rantanen, they had to give up something of value, and that ended up being the young centre.
Now however, the 22-year old admits he couldn't be happier, as he has 1 goal and 2 points in 4 games with Carolina, who appear to be giving him a much bigger role, and while he may not be at Rantanen's level, the Hurricanes believe in the young forward.
«I couldn't be happier now being in Carolina, and it's been great so far. I've really enjoyed myself."

Ultimately, this season turned into a wild one for the 'Canes who acquired and moved Rantanen within the span of two months, but now with Stankoven to lead the way forward along with two first-round picks, they've come out the other end well, with the young star clearly happy to be a 'Cane moving forward.
