Patrick Maroon is headed for retirement after this season, and now, the Big Rig is getting plenty of respect from his former rivals late in his final campaign.

After a stellar career that saw him win three Stanley Cups, veteran forward Patrick Maroon officially announced his retirement over the weekend, revealing that the 2024/25 campaign will be his last at the NHL level.
Unsurprisingly, that has brought forward many tributes for the man known as the Big Rig, as he has played on some fantastic teams over his career, and whatever role he has been needed to fill, he's done so to the best of his ability.
In 842 games with Anaheim, Edmonton, New Jersey, Tampa Bay, St. Louis, Minnesota, Boston and finally Chicago, the 36-year old veteran has tallied 126 goals and 322 points, winning three straight Stanley Cups with the Blues and Lightning between 2019 and 2021.
Since the announcement, he's been given his flowers not only by the media in the NHL, but from his former rivals as well, with veteran Flyers forward Nicolas Deslauriers announcing a major tribute to the hard nosed Maroon.
Reportedly, Deslauriers told Maroon that he would not go after him since announcing his retirement, as he also asked his former rival for a signed stick as well, a great show of respect for what Maroon has done at the NHL level throughout his 14 year career.
While there will be plenty of other players retiring after this season too, Maroon is about to get plenty more tributes over the next few weeks as he plays his final games at the NHL level, but with a future in broadcasting or coaching, this certainly isn't the last we will see of Maroon involved with the league.
