The waiver wire was busy for the second consecutive day but this time, it wasn't for contract termination purposes and features a former first round pick.

In a post on X on Sunday afternoon, CapFriendly announced that the Vancouver Canucks' 2012 first round pick Brendan Gaunce has been placed on waivers by the Columbus Blue Jackets for the purpose of assigning him to the American Hockey League.

The Sudbury, Ontario native appeared in 24 games at the NHL level for the Blue Jackets this season, recording four points (two goals, two assists), six penalty minutes and was a minus-seven. Gaunce played in 46 AHL games for Cleveland where he had 39 points (19 goals, 20 assists).

If Brendan Gaunce clears waivers on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET, he'll be assigned to the American Hockey League's Cleveland Monsters, who are set to take on the Hershey Bears in the Eastern Conference Final.

In other related news, Tampa Bay Lightning forward prospect Ilya Usau has cleared unconditional waivers and will have the final year of his contract terminated. Usua is expected to return to the KHL and while it's unclear what team he'll suit up for, there's a good chance it'll be for his hometown club - Dynamo Minsk.
