Ottawa Senators reportedly 'seriously interested' in 29-year-old forward from Philadelphia
During last night's Stanley Cup Final game, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared that the Philadelphia Flyers are beginning to receive calls regarding former first-round pick Scott Laughton.
"Well he (Briere) made the big trade earlier this week and people started to call him a bit more. I heard at the combine one of the names that was probably mentioned the most was Scott Laughton. He's signed for three more years at $3 million a season, he's a really good player, teams are always looking for centers. I think the Flyers believe this, look, turning their team over, they're going to have a lot of young players, you need good veterans around them. I think in a perfect world they would like to keep Laughton, but, and this is a but, if they get the right price, they'll consider it. I just heard there's been a lot of teams calling about him." Friedman said. On Sunday, David Pagnotta and Anthony Di Marco of The Fourth Period both shared some updates on Scott Laughton's situation.
Pagnotta is reporting that the Ottawa Senators have expressed serious interest in trading for the 29-year-old forward. Meanwhile, Di Marco says that the Flyers have already turned down a late first-round pick in exchange for Laughton, which shows how much the organization values him.
Laughton, a native of Oakville, Ontario, is coming off the best season of his National Hockey League career thus far. In 78 games, Laughton set career-highs in goals (18), assists (25) and points (43), while also adding 50 penalty minutes and was a minus-nine.
The Flyers have already been extremely busy this week with trading Ivan Provorov to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a three-team trade involving the Los Angeles Kings. In the deal, Danny Briere was able to get Cal Petersen, Sean Walker, Helge Grans and a trio of picks including the 22nd overall pick in this year's Entry Draft.
Briere is expected to be one of the busiest general managers this summer, so the Flyers are going to be a team that everyone should keep an eye on as we head towards the NHL Entry Draft and free agency.
