The Seattle Kraken have made National Hockey League history on Wednesday, hiring the first female coach to be behind the bench ever.

According to Ryan S. Clark of ESPN, the Seattle Kraken have hired Jessica Campbell as an assistant coach on Dan Bylsma's staff starting next season.

"BREAKING: The Seattle Kraken have hired Jessica Campbell as an assistant coach which makes her the first woman in NHL history to be behind the bench. #SeaKraken" Clark said.

Campbell, 31, was hired two years ago by the Kraken to be an assistant coach for thier American Hockey League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, helping them to back-to-back Calder Cup Finals.

She also spent time as an assistant coach for Germany during the 2022 IIHF Men's World Hockey Championship, where they finished seventh after a loss in the quarterfinals to Czechia.

The hiring of Jessica Campbell is huge for women in sports and young girls who now have a role model to look up to if they want to be a coach in the National Hockey League one day.
