The Toronto Maple Leafs and starting goaltender Ilya Samsonov went to arbitration on Friday in a move that surprised a lot of people, after most thought they would agree on a contract without the arbitrator.
Now, the ruling has been announced and Samsonov's contract has been revealed as 3.55 million on a one year deal, take a look.
Samsonov, 26, played in 42 games for the Leafs last season in what was an outstanding year for him. He went 27-10-5 with 4 shutouts a 2.33 goals and a .919 save percentage. While it breakout season for Samsonov, the 4.9 million ask was far fetched for a guy that's played in 89 NHL games.
At the end of the day though, when the two sides couldn't come to a deal, a 3rd party had to step in. Giving Samsonov arguably more than he's worth, meaning this was the Leafs failure to negotiate with their goaltender, but 3.55 is a lot more reasonable then I was expecting.
