Insider reveals Kyle Dubas's job may be safe, but not for the reason you might think
After a disappointing exit from the playoffs and the end to their season, a lot of media and fans alike are calling for significant change within the Toronto Maple Leaf organization. Still, an insider reveals why Kyle Dubas may, in fact, keep his job.
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, there's one major reason why Dubas might still be the general manager by the time next season starts, take a look: EF talking about Matthews 👀 #LeafsForever #LeafsNation #NHL
the thing is the number one question is Matthews, you know, his contract is up in a year, he's got a no trade clause that kicks in, you've gotta know by the draft if you have a reasonable chance at signing him. I think the other thing to is, if Dubas stays, at least he knows what he's in for here. He knows the manager, he knows the plan. If Dubas leaves, I think you're gonna have to sell Matthews on ok, who's the next person and what's the plan
At this point, something has to change within the Leafs organization, but I don't think you can risk losing Matthews for nothing. If keeping Dubas in Toronto, keeps Matthews, I think you have to do it.
The only other option is to blow the entire thing up, take all the stars, get rid of Dubas, get rid of Brendan Shanahan and start all over.
I don't think anyone is actually interested in the later option, though, so Dubas might be safe, for now.
