Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews was not happy with the media last night, as questions about Mitch Marner continue to be posed.
Ever since Mitch Marner's departure from the Toronto Maple Leafs, Auston Matthews has had to answer questions about his good friend.
Marner is with the Las Vegas Golden Knights now, and last night, the Leafs played the Golden Knights for the first time since this betrayal.
While Marner will return to Toronto next Friday, there is no denying that there was a major media frenzy for last night's matchup. The Toronto media were especially interested in this game, and they let their presence be known.
Having said that, some found their presence to be excessive and downright obsessive. Auston Matthews was one of the people who felt that way, and he let his thoughts be known.
Narratives are starting to weigh on Auston Matthews
While speaking to Mark Masters prior to last night's game, the captain was asked, yet again, about playing against Marner for the first time.
The forward was incredibly honest with Masters, noting that he was absolutely fed up with answering questions about Marner, and that he wanted to focus on the game.
If this is how Matthews feels now, there is no denying that it is only going to get worse in short order. Next week, Marner returns to Toronto, and the media is going to be on a whole other level.
The Leafs are going to have to figure out how to navigate this. If they don't, then this is going to be an incredibly long stretch for them. It's sad, but ultimately the truth.
Last night, the Leafs lost to the Golden Knights, and it is clear that the weight of the moment was just a bit too much for this team, much to the chagrin of fans.
Going forward, the Leafs will have to figure it out. If they don't, then this team will find themselves out of the playoffs in no time.
