Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has been out of the lineup with a lower-body injury, and in the midst of a losing streak, he is giving some positivity.
Auston Matthews is one of the best players in the world, although in the last year and a half or so, he has had his fair share of struggles.
Unfortunately, the Maple Leafs are in the midst of a five-game losing streak, and while all of this is going on, Matthews is dealing with an injury.
Just yesterday, it was revealed by head coach Craig Berube that the captain had not skated in a week, which led to lots of concern.
Subsequently, Brad Treliving announced a press conference for this morning, and there was this sense that Matthews' health was at the center of it.
Thankfully, this was not the case. Instead, Treliving mostly gave a state-of-the-union address, while Matthews' health was not at stake.
Auston Matthews returns to the ice for the Toronto Maple Leafs
On Tuesday, prior to morning skate, Auston Matthews was actually on the ice, where he got some work in as a means of getting himself ready for future action.
This is the first step towards a return, and if you are a Maple Leafs fan, then you should be encouraged by the fact that Matthews is feeling well enough to skate.
Tonight, the captain will be out of the lineup as the Maple Leafs look to take on the St. Louis Blues, and snap a five-game losing streak.
This is a very important game for the Maple Leafs, and a lot of fans are putting quite a bit of stock into the results of this matchup.
If the Maple Leafs cannot get the win, then there is going to be a lot of anger amongst the fanbase, and some heavy questions will have to be answered.
