Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews is currently in Milan for the Winter Olympics, although all that glitters is not gold for Team USA.
Auston Matthews is the captain of Team USA at the Winter Olympics, and there is no denying that he is feeling some of the pressure.
The Americans are considered to be one of the favorites in this tournament. In fact, Team Canada vs. Team USA seems to be the final that everyone is waiting for.
With that being said, both countries are still in the midst of figuring out the chemistry situation going into the tournament.
Team USA had its first practice on Sunday, and it was here that Matthews learned that he would be playing alongside Matt Boldy and Jake Guentzel.
Auston Matthews is living with Dylan Larkin
Interestingly enough, Matthews is not bunking with any of his linemates. Instead, he is bunking with Dylan Larkin of the Detroit Red Wings.
As he told reporters, this is probably the worst part of his Olympic experience so far. Not because he dislikes Larkin, but because the quarters are very cramped.
When you are an NHL player, you are used to a very specific brand of treatment on the road, but at the Olympics, it is different.
The living quarters are much smaller, and you always have a roommate. It is not the ideal situation, but you make do because it is the best opportunity of a lifetime.
Ultimately, it is going to be fascinating to watch the Maple Leafs stars look to go for Gold in what should be an incredible tournament.
Whether or not Matthews ends up coming home with some hardware is something that still very much remains to be seen.
