Bobby McMann's contract negotiation with the Maple Leafs takes a turn for the worse

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann is currently in the midst of a contract negotiation, although the trade rumors are certainly working overtime.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have gotten their money's worth out of Bobby McMann over the past couple of seasons, but soon, he is going to be worth a lot more.
As it stands, the Leafs and McMann are in talks for a new deal. There have been some reports suggesting that McMann could be worth upwards of $5 million per season on the open market.
This is a very expensive endeavor for the Maple Leafs, especially since they aren't close to the playoffs and need a retool.
In fact, McMann is at the top of the Leafs' trade bait board, and rightfully so, given everything we have seen over the past few weeks.

According to David Pagnotta, a McMann contract doesn't seem likely anyway. Why? Well, it has to do with the fact that he wants too much money.
It's kinda status quo contract-wise between the Leafs and Bobby McMann's camp, they're not close; this could be very interesting for a team like the Oilers; LA...they're another team I believe interested
With contract talks taking a negative turn, it really does feel as though the Maple Leafs are in a tough spot, and need to figure something out.
The Leafs could easily get some draft capital in exchange for McMann, which is something that would help out the Leafs considerably.
At the end of the day, we do not envy general manager Brad Treliving, who has a whole lot to think about over the coming days and weeks.
With the roster freeze on the horizon for the Olympics, there is no doubt that the pressure is mounting.
