Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving addressed the media on Tuesday, and it was here that he revealed the team's trade strategy.
Brad Treliving has one of the most difficult jobs in hockey right now. After a three-game losing streak, the entire internet was demanding that he fire head coach Craig Berube.
Instead, Treliving chose to fire assistant coach Marc Savard. This was a compromise, and there were fans who weren't so sure that this was enough.
As for the roster, it is clear that this team is not built for the regular season, and they certainly aren't built for the playoffs. With that in mind, there has been speculation that the Leafs would be sellers this season.
For years, the Leafs have been buyers, and it has completely drained them of draft picks and assets. In the eyes of some, now is as good a time as ever to sell off some players and hoard some valuable assets.

As it turns out, Treliving will not be listening to that advice. While speaking to the media on Tuesday, the general manager reiterated that the plan is for the Leafs to add at the trade deadline.
There is still a belief that the team can turn the season around and compete. As a result, he will be looking to add players, not subtract them. It's a bold strategy, and one has to wonder if the belief is justified at this point.
The Leafs did get some reprieve on Tuesday as they defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins by a score of 6-3 on home ice, in what was a dominant win.
After losing three in a row, it was time for the Leafs to come through with an offensive explosion and show fans what they can do. Whether or not they can keep it up remains to be seen.
The fact remains that the Maple Leafs are in last place in the Atlantic Division and are one of the weakest teams when it comes to five-on-five play.
Something needs to change in order for this Leafs team to start performing at a high level, and one has to wonder if the Savard firing will be the start of an unlikely turnaround.
