Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube just witnessed the firing of one of his staff members, and now, he is working alongside a new guy in Steve Sullivan.
The Maple Leafs made a difficult decision on Monday this past week as they fired assistant coach Marc Savard following a rough start to the season.
It was a move that had to be done, although there were some fans out there who thought Berube was going to get the boot first.
On Friday, the team announced the hiring of Steve Sullivan, who has been an assistant coach with the Toronto Marlies over the past couple of seasons.
The 1000-game NHL veteran used to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he appears as the perfect hire for a team that is looking to make a splash.
Craig Berube on the Steve Sullivan hiring
At morning skate on Saturday, Berube was asked about the Sullivan hiring, and what he thought about all of it. As you can imagine, the coach is excited about the new staff member.
Great to have Sully here. We all knew Sully coming in and working with the Marlies this year. He was a long time NHL player, a good player and an offensive guy. So brought him in here to help us and work with the power play.
Sullivan will be working on the power play, which is something Leafs fans will get a taste of tonight as the team takes on the Ottawa Senators.
The power play has been the worst part of this team so far, and there is no denying that the Leafs desperately need something good to happen.
It will also be interesting to see how much leeway Sullivan is going to be given, especially since this is going to be his first game with the team
Whatever the case may be, the Leafs are a team that needs wins right now, and they don't have any breathing room for more losses.
