The Toronto Maple Leafs recently fired Marc Savard, and now, Craig Berube's staff has a vacancy that the team is in no rush to fill right about now.
This past week, the Toronto Maple Leafs made the difficult decision of firing assistant coach Marc Savard, as the Leafs continued to lose badly.
Their power play was no good, and it was about time for the Leafs to make a move that sent a message to Craig Berube and the rest of his staff.
At the moment, the Leafs have no plans to replace Savard, and it seems like the entire staff will be taking on some of his responsibilities.
With that being said, there was at least one coach who wanted a job with the Leafs, and unfortunately, he was not granted one.
Bruce Boudreau snubbed by the Leafs
That coach was none other than Bruce Boudreau, who has previously expressed interest in being hired as part of Berube's staff.
According to Nick Alberga, the Leafs have not contacted Boudreau, and it doesn't appear as though they are going to anytime soon.
It's a sad predicament for Boudreau, who has consistently been a well-respected coach around the NHL over the past few decades.
The Maple Leafs are looking to bounce back from a poor start to the season, and Boudreau is someone who could uplift the vibe in the dressing room.
For now, however, he will have to look elsewhere for a job, as the Leafs just aren't open to hiring anyone in their current form.
Going into the New Year, it is going to be fascinating to see if the Maple Leafs can find their way and get back into a playoff spot.
