Craig Berube Confirms Morgan Rielly is Going on a Revenge Tour this Season
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly is coming off a down year with the franchise, and according to Craig Berube, a bounce-back is guaranteed.
Morgan Rielly did not have a great season with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2024-25, as he finished with just 41 points in 82 games.
Fans typically expect more offense from the defenseman, and there were all sorts of rumblings about what could be going on with him.
Some suspected that a big reason behind his demise was a lack of understanding when it came to Craig Berube's system.
The defenseman never looked comfortable on the ice, and there were all sorts of speculations that Rielly and his head coach weren't gelling.
Morgan Rielly needs to be better for the Toronto Maple Leafs
However, on a new episode of '100% Hockey,' Craig Berube made it clear that Morgan Rielly is just fine, and that this year is going to be different.
Berube claims Rielly was so focused on defense last season that his offensive numbers struggled. That said, he has had a productive summer, and his offensive instincts have returned.
The offense side of things started to come later in the season. He wanted to focus on the defensive side of things and be a better defensive player who is more physical and reliable back there. Maybe we took his instincts away from him a little bit. They started to come back.
I'll tell you this: Morgan had a hell of a summer. He looks great. He is in great shape. I don't know if it is the best shape he has ever been in, but I think it is pretty close. He took it to heart last year. He wasn't happy with his season offensively. He put in some great work this summer. I think we are going to see a different player.

If Rielly can bring about his offense from the postseason, then the Maple Leafs are going to be in a great spot to be competitive.
No matter what, the Leafs need Rielly to be good. He is their only puck-moving defenseman right now, and he has all the talent in the world.
Should the defenseman get off to a hot start this season, then the fans will most certainly be feeling grateful.
