Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has missed about a week's worth of games due to a lower-body injury, and he has not been able to return since then.

Auston Matthews had some serious injury issues last season, and they stayed with him for the entirety of the 2024-25 season. The captain was unable to score at his usual pace, and it was quite frustrating to watch.
Matthews is off to another relatively slow start this season, although his injury issues are back again. This time, following a hit from behind by Nikita Zadorov of the Boston Bruins.
Matthews has been out of the Leafs' lineup for two games now, and with the team on a five-game losing streak, there has been some hope that he would return relatively soon.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like that is going to be the case. Instead, the Leafs' injury problems are only getting worse right about now.

Craig Berube gives grim injury update on Auston Matthews

According to Craig Berube, Auston Matthews is currently still dealing with his injury. In fact, the captain has not skated in a week since suffering the injury.
That pretty well tells you that you should not expect to see Matthews on the ice tomorrow as the Leafs take on the St. Louis Blues.
This has been an incredibly difficult start to the season for the Maple Leafs, who are currently seventh in the Atlantic Division and have only eight wins in 19 games.
If you are a fan of the Maple Leafs, there is no doubt that this team has been incredibly difficult to watch in the early going of the regular season.
However, there is still time for this team to improve. It might not be easy, but it is certainly doable. The team just needs to have the belief.
For now, the anxiety will remain, especially as the Leafs look to take on and defeat a team they should have no issues of dispatching.
