Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies missed last night's game against the St. Louis Blues, and it led to a lot of speculation online.
Just an hour before last night's Maple Leafs game against the St. Louis Blues, it was announced that Matthew Knies would not be playing.
This came at the worst time possible. The Leafs entered the match on a five-game losing streak, and there were also some trade rumors surrounding Knies.
As you can imagine, this led to quite a bit of anxiety amongst fans, and with yet another star forward out, it felt like a loss was going to be inevitable.
Thankfully, the Maple Leafs ended up pulling out a win thanks to an incredible performance from goaltender Joseph Woll, as well as a game-winner from William Nylander.
Craig Berube gives an update on Matthew Knies
After the game, head coach Craig Berube spoke to the media, where he offered fans and the media a concrete update on Matthew Knies and his condition.
Essentially, this is an injury that the forward has been dealing with for quite some time, and on Tuesday, it finally caught up to him in a way that forced him out of the Maple Leafs' lineup.
For now, there is no timeline on Knies' injury and when he might end up returning to the Toronto Maple Leafs' lineup. Instead, fans are just going to have to wait and see.
The Maple Leafs play the Columbus Blue Jackets at home on Thursday, and there is some hope that the forward will be able to return in time for that matchup.
On Saturday, the Maple Leafs get to play the Montreal Canadiens, and as you can imagine, that is one of those games that everyone is currently circling on their calendars.
If Knies can be back in time for the game against the Canadiens, then perhaps the Leafs have a shot at replicating their success from the season opener.
