Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies is not playing against the St. Louis Blues tonight, and this update could not have come at a worse time.
Matthew Knies is considered one of the four untouchable players on the Toronto Maple Leafs roster right now, as general manager Brad Treliving looks to make a trade.
However, over the course of the last few days, there have been some rumblings that teams have been asking for the forward, particularly the Calgary Flames.
Tonight, the Leafs are playing against the St. Louis Blues, and Knies was expected to play. At the worst possible time, this status was reverted just an hour before puck drop.
The Leafs are saying that Knies is dealing with a lower-body injury, but the recent reports will have the conspiracy theorists mad.
Of course, you should probably just take all of this at face value and understand that this is simply a real injury that the forward is dealing with.
Knies missed practice just a few days ago for maintenance, so it isn't far-fetched that he would be dealing with an injury right now.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs. St. Louis Blues
Unfortunately, things are not going to get any better for the Maple Leafs, who are in the midst of a truly awful five-game losing streak.
The fans are starting to get worried about this team missing the playoffs, and with all of these injuries, it is hard to imagine the team doing any better.
With a loss, the Leafs would have lost six games in a row, and that would be an absolute disaster for this team.
Only time will tell if things get better, or if this Leafs team is just destined for even more pain, going forward.
