Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies remains one of the best players on the team, but a recent injury is currently threatening his impressive season.
Matthew Knies is having the best season of his career with 40 points in 45 games. However, he has been struggling as of late.
The forward isn't on top of his game right now, and there has been a sense that he is dealing with some kind of injury.
To give credence to this, the forward has been missing out on practices and morning skates. Today, he was a game-time decision against the Minnesota Wild.
In the end, Knies was able to get himself into the lineup, which is certainly good to see, and the Maple Leafs fans were happy about it.
Craig Berube on Matthew Knies' injury
When asked about the injury, Berube noted that this is something that has been lingering for more than just a few weeks.
In fact, it only seems to get better when Knies gets a few days off. It's not enough to keep him out of games, but it's also enough to cause him discomfort.
It's obviously bothering him a lot for quite some time & hasn't gotten really that much better other than when he gets some breaks. Like Christmas time & stuff, he comes back & he feels better. It's an ongoing issue.
This is certainly not great for the Maple Leafs, and it certainly isn't great for Knies either, who would much rather be healthy.
Only time will tell whether or not this is something that will ultimately hamper Knies as the season continues to march forward.
If one thing is for certain, it is that the Olympic break could not come any sooner.
