Former Toronto Maple Leafs assistant coach Marc Savard is facing severe scrutiny right now, and it is all thanks to the fact that the Leafs are good again.
Marc Savard was fired a few weeks ago, when the Toronto Maple Leafs were in last place in the Eastern Conference, and the doom and gloom were real.
Now, the Maple Leafs are currently on track for a Wild Card playoff spot, and while making up ground won't be easy, they are playing their best hockey of the season.
The timing of this resurgence is curious, especially when you consider how the power play has also been much improved as of late.
Analysts cannot help but point to Savard as some sort of toxic force in the locker room that was keeping the Maple Leafs down.

In fact, a controversial former Sportsnet host in Sid Seixeiro recently offered his thoughts on all of this, claiming that the Savard situation is curious.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have more points in the standings than other team since firing assistant head coach Marc Savard just before Christmas.

Seixeiro is certainly right about the fact that the Leafs have completely elevated since getting rid of Savard, and it's curious why that is the case.
Clearly, something was going on with the assistant coach that was simply not resonating with the players on the Maple Leafs.
Going forward, it will be interesting to see if the Leafs keep it going and if Marc Savard finds himself a job back in the NHL.
Ultimately, there is no denying that the Leafs made the right decision by moving on to a different coach altogether.
