Easton Cowan will get every opportunity to make the Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving shared that London Knights forward Easton Cowan will get every opportunity to make the team out of training camp.
While it's understood and widely known that if you make a National Hockey League roster it's because you earned it and it wasn't given to you. With this idea in mind Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving had some words to share about one of the teams up and coming prospects.
Treliving who hasn't been afraid to be upfront and honest about any of the players on his club shared some important insight about nineteen-year-old London Knights forward Easton Cowan:
In my mind, Easton's pushing. Now, having said that, we all want to put them on the team in July and August. Preseason is one thing, regular season is a different thing. We will make room for young players if young players can help us win. Don't read into this idea that where's the path? The path starts with playing well and then we'll get back. We'll find a reason.
Whether this is the honest to God's truth or rhetoric is anyone's guess however the truth of the matter is that Cowan certainly has an opportunity to make the team, but he has to work for it, as nothing comes easy. Could Leafs Nation see Cowan in the lineup come opening night? It's entirely possible, but if the team doesn't feel they have the appropriate situation for him to succeed he'll likely end up back with the London Knights for most of the OHL season.
Rushing his progression will do nobody any good. Good things come to those who wait and for the Toronto Maple Leafs, it's worth the wait for Easton Cowan.
