Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Marshall Rifai has been stuck in the AHL over the years, but now that he's on the road with the Leafs, fans are hoping for the best.
Marshall Rifai is a player that Toronto Maple Leafs fans have been cheering for years; however, he has not received enough opportunities.
A couple of seasons ago, he got into two games with the Leafs, but that has been the extent of his experience in the NHL.
He has mostly spent his time with the Toronto Marlies, and at 27 years old, he wants to finally get some opportunities in the show.
Having said that, the Leafs have called him up on numerous occasions. Unfortunately, this hasn't always resulted in playing time, but that appears to be changing.
Marshall Rifai gets his chance
Rifai was called up for the Maple Leafs' West Coast road trip, which is taking them to Vancouver on Saturday to take on the Canucks.
According to Leafs head coach Craig Berube, Rifai is going to get the start on Saturday, and he will replace struggling defenseman Simon Benoit.
Overall, this is a pretty cool moment for Rifai, who is going to get to play his first game of the Maple Leafs season on Saturday.
Whether or not this is going to lead to a win for the Maple Leafs is something that remains to be seen. At this point, anything could give them a boost.
Fans are certainly hoping for Rifai to be the answer to a lot of these problems for the Leafs, but it is doubtful that is the case.
Either way, we wish the defenseman luck as he looks to prove himself yet again.
