Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has not been performing up to expectations, and his recent comments prove he is not meeting the moment.

Auston Matthews has been just ordinary this season. Twenty-three points in 29 games is not the kind of production you want from a superstar.
He has been rendered ineffective for two-straight games, and it is becoming clear that the captain isn't meshing well with Craig Berube.
Last night against the Nashville Predators, Matthews looked particularly checked out, and it is starting to get to a point where fans are just fed up.
They expect so much better from this team, and as it stands, they simply aren't getting what they had previously signed up for.

Auston Matthews speaks on loss to the Nashville Predators

After last night's loss to the Predators, Matthews spoke to the media, and it has become clear as day that he just doesn't care any more.
He doesn't seem to hate losing enough, and he is even going as far as to say that the team is just fine from a mental standpoint.
I think mentally we're fine. I thought tonight, as shitty as it is losing, I thought the process was better. I thought we had good energy all night. And even though you're leaving the rink upset, not getting out of any points in tonight's game, I think just the process that we had throughout is something that we can take and move forward.
There are very few fans of the team who would actually believe something like that. The Leafs are not in a good spot, and sit last in the Atlantic Division.
Analysts are begging for general manager Brad Treliving to blow up the team and go in another direction, which is more proof that the Leafs are cooked.
There is nothing but doom and gloom right now, and it is hard to imagine that changing, anytime soon.
