Leafs Captain Auston Matthews Makes Eye-Opening Decision Just Weeks Before the Season

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews is currently in the midst of training camp, and his recent decision is gaining a lot of attention on social media.
Auston Matthews went through an injury struggle last season. Throughout the season, he never felt 100 percent himself.
Going into this season, that has changed. The captain has made it clear that his injury issues are gone and that he is ready to perform at the highest level.
This is great news for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are eager to see their captain hit the 50-goal plateau again. Although hitting 69 like he did two seasons ago would also be well-received.
Auston Matthews bows out of preseason tilt
Tonight, the Maple Leafs are playing against the Montreal Canadiens in what should be a preseason matchup for the ages.
Unfortunately, Matthews is not in the lineup. Why? Well, it all stems from a decision he made at the start of training camp. According to Mark Masters, he will only play in two preseason matches.

Matthews has already played in one game against the Ottawa Senators. It is expected that he will play again on Thursday.
This will be his final preseason game before the regular season officially begins on October 8th. His linemates are expected to be Matthew Knies and Max Domi.
Without Mitch Marner, this is going to be a difficult season, and many are curious to see if Auston Matthews will be truly up to the challenge.
Overall, this is going to be an interesting season, and we cannot wait for it to finally get all the way started.
