Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube pulled Joseph Woll on Saturday night against the Montreal Canadiens, and this has led to some questions.

Joseph Woll tried his best against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night, but his team played horribly in front of him, and the Leafs lost 5-2.
Woll was pulled in the middle of the second period, after allowing four goals on 25 shots. Before that, he stood on his head, making some acrobatic saves.
Had it not been for the goaltender's performance, the score could have easily been 8-0. The Habs were relentless, and the Leafs did not show up to play.

Craig Berube on pulling Joseph Woll

Berube's decision to pull Woll raised some eyebrows, although it was certainly justifiable. After the game, the head coach was asked if it was a mercy pull or something to get the skaters going. Berube made it clear that it was both.
Both. We're down a goalie already.
The head coach also noted how they are down a goalie, with Anthony Stolarz injured. The Leafs cannot afford to overwork Woll.
Woll missed the first month of the season, but last night, he played his fourth game in a row. It just goes to show that he is valuable to this team.

Joseph Woll's stats tell a short story

Prior to last night's game, Joseph Woll had a goals-against average of 2.57 and a save percentage of .923. However, after this game, his save percentage is now .905 while his goals-against average is 3.27.
When you have only played four games, one bad game can completely derail your statline. Regardless, last night's loss was not on Woll.
Instead, it was the fault of the defense and the rest of the roster, which has been absolutely dormant this season. At the end of the day, Woll can't thrive if the team in front of him is this bad.
