Leafs forward Matias Maccelli could be on his way to a bitter Atlantic Division rival

Matias Maccelli hasn't been given a fair shake with the Toronto Maple Leafs this season. At one point, he had been a healthy scratch in nine straight games.

Due to injuries, Maccelli has found himself back in the lineup, and he is clearly making good use of his time. His production is up, and with 13 points in 27 games, he is on a much better scoring pace than he was last season.

Having said that, it remains clear that Berube doesn't love the guy. If the Maple Leafs got a good offer on Maccelli, they would trade him in a heartbeat.

In fact, a new report from The Athletic suggests that one of the Maple Leafs' most bitter rivals is currently working on a deal for Maccelli.

That rival is none other than the Boston Bruins. The Bruins could use some extra offense in their middle six, and Maccelli is a target.

Whether or not the Leafs would get a roster player, a prospect, or a draft pick in return is something that still very much remains to be seen.

The Maple Leafs remain a team open to doing business right now, and according to general manager Brad Treliving, the goal is to be a buyer and not a seller.

The Olympic break is coming up soon, and the trade deadline is on March 6th. With that in mind, the Maple Leafs do have some big decisions to make.
