Toronto Maple Leafs forward Sammy Blais was unable to finish last night's game against the St. Louis Blues, and it was all thanks to a very gruesome injury.

Sammy Blais was a late addition to the Toronto Maple Leafs' roster, just one day before the start of the NHL regular season.
While it took him a while to get into the lineup, Blais has proven to be a solid forward, especially with all of the injuries that the team is currently going through.
Unfortunately, Blais may have just added himself to the long list of injuries that the Toronto Maple Leafs are going through right now. We say this because he was unable to finish last night's game against the St. Louis Blues.
The Maple Leafs won their matchup by a score of 3-2 in overtime, although Blais' exit late in the game certainly was a cause for concern.

Craig Berube with an update on Sammy Blais

After the game, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube revealed some truly gruesome details surrounding Blais' injury, and they might just make you shudder.
As it turns out, Blais was coughing up blood. This could indicate broken ribs or another underlying issue. Whatever the case may be, you never want to see this kind of thing.
Overall, the Maple Leafs were entering last night's game with a record of 8-9-2 and were seventh in the Atlantic Division, in the midst of a five-game losing streak.
They have snapped that streak and now find themselves just a bit closer to being .500 again. However, the work is not done, and things won't get any easier.
With the entire team dealing with injuries, we could see even more call-ups over the coming days. The Columbus Blue Jackets will be in town on Thursday, so the Leafs need to get some good news fast.
Meanwhile, the team gets to take on the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, which will be a rematch of the season opener, which the Leafs won pretty easily.
