Nicolas Roy returned to Las Vegas for the first time since the infamous Mitch Marner trade, and there is no denying that the Toronto Maple Leafs forward is beloved.
Last night was a big game for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Of course, it was the first time the Leafs got to see Mitch Marner since the trade.
While Marner was the biggest story of the evening, it should be noted that there was a major homecoming last night that was mostly overlooked by the media.
Nicolas Roy was part of the Mitch Marner trade, and on Thursday, he got to return to Las Vegas for the first time since joining the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Unfortunately for Roy and the Leafs, the game was a wash as the Leafs blew a lead and lost 6-5 in overtime. Roy finished with zero points, but he did get a huge reception from the Golden Knights faithful.
A standing ovation for Nicolas Roy
As you can see in the clip below, Roy actually got a standing ovation from the fans in Las Vegas, which is extremely cool and shows how beloved he is.
Roy was someone who was mostly a bottom-six player with the Golden Knights, but the fans still loved him for his effort and contributions all over the ice.
Next Friday, Roy will get to take on the Las Vegas Golden Knights all over again, and it feels as though this is going to be the real test for the Leafs.
Mitch Marner will be making his return to Toronto, and the fans are excited to see how that turns out and if the Leafs can keep the momentum going.
At the end of the day, the Leafs and Golden Knights rivalry is in full swing, and it will be truly fascinating to see how all of this pans out going forward.
If the Leafs can get revenge next Friday, they will make a lot of Leafs fans very happy.
