Maple Leafs hit with absurd asking price for Rasmus Andersson

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been very interested in Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson, but the asking price is a bit too steep.
Rasmus Andersson is one of the best offensive defenseman on the market right now, and the Toronto Maple Leafs are naturally very intrigued.
If Chris Tanev is going to be out for the rest of the season, the Leafs are going to need someone to fill that void.
Bringing in a guy who can generate offense in the defensive zone is a necessity, and it would certainly help this team make a playoff push.
Unfortunately, a new report from The Daily Faceoff suggests the Flames have a little too much dip on their chip right now.
The Calgary Flames are playing hardball
As Mike Gould explains, the Flames have a Brad Treliving tax of sorts. The unspoken law here is that the Flames want to charge Treliving more.
A few assets here and there aren't going to cut it. Instead, the Flames are looking for a player like power forward Matthew Knies.
It'll be very difficult for the Leafs to present the Flames with a competitive offer, and that's not just because of their lack of picks and prospects. The Flames have conspicuously not made a deal with the Leafs since Treliving left for Toronto in 2023, with rumors and speculation abound that Treliving will have to pay a considerably higher price than other GMs to acquire any players from his former team. It's no wonder the Flames would want Matthew Knies from Toronto, cosmically unlikely as it is that they'd get him.
Quite frankly, Knies is a non-starter for the Leafs. He is part of the new Core Four, and there is no way the Leafs ever part ways with him
Sure, Andersson is a good player. However, Knies is just too valuable, and it's a move that Treliving would be absolutely nuts to make.
