Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson has been the subject of trade talks, and it is becoming clearer and clearer that the Toronto Maple Leafs are interested.

Rasmus Andersson is having a solid bounce-back season with the Calgary Flames. In 81 games last season, he had just 31 points and a -38 rating. In 36 games this season, he has 25 points and a +5 rating.
He has been thrown around in trade conversations, and for very good reason. There are numerous teams that could use a rental, especially one who is right-handed and can move the puck.
The Maple Leafs need that kind of defenseman, and general manager Brad Treliving has been poking around on a potential Andersson deal. Unfortunately for the Leafs, he has been unable to get one done.
It's clear that Andersson's days with the Flames are numbered, and recently, it was revealed that the defenseman would even be interested in signing long-term in Toronto.

Rasmus Andersson remains on the Maple Leafs' radar

In a recent report from Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, it was revealed that the Calgary Flames wanted a first-round pick and a prospect in exchange for Andersson.
However, that was the price last season. Now, he is a rental, and that price could end up coming down, which benefits the Leafs greatly.
The Flames were looking for a first-rounder and a good prospect for him last season. Back then, he wasn't a rental, so we'll see if the market's changed
One has to wonder if the Maple Leafs are even still interested in a trade for Andersson, considering the team is not in a playoff position right now.
This might be the first season in years where the Leafs have to be sellers as opposed to buyers. That would mean forgoing the opportunity to get Andersson at a bargain.
It's the harsh reality, but when you are in last place in the Atlantic Division, you don't really get to dictate negotiations. For now, the Leafs remain in limbo.
