Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews went down with a lower-body injury against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, and today, more bad news was announced.

Auston Matthews is the backbone of the Toronto Maple Leafs, although tonight, he will not be available against the Los Angeles Kings.
According to Elliotte Friedman, Matthews' lower-body injury is not serious, which is good news. However, as a result of this injury, he is still going to have to miss a couple of games.
This is very bad news for the Maple Leafs, who are currently in the midst of a three-game losing streak and are buried in seventh place in the Atlantic Division.
Overall, this news was complemented by the announcement that Anthony Stolarz is out tonight, as well. This means Dennis Hildeby will start, and Artur Akhtyamov will be the backup.
Things could not be any worse for the Toronto Maple Leafs right now. They keep losing, and now, two of their most important players are out of the lineup.
To make matters even worse, they are playing the Los Angeles Kings tonight, and everyone knows that the Kings are a phenomenal team.

Toronto Maple Leafs and the Atlantic Division

Teams like the Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, and Detroit Red Wings are all showing some promise right now, much to the Leafs' chagrin.
Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers are ready to break out and start playing like true championship contenders.
It is a nightmare scenario for the Maple Leafs, who remain a team that has a ton of needs, including when it comes to top-six forwards and top-four defenseman.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs can overcome these deficits and secure a much-needed win against the Kings.
