Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi has been having himself a nice stretch of hockey, but it's at risk of ending before it even begins.

Max Domi is a player who struggled quite a bit with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season, and the start of this season wasn't pretty either.
At a salary of $3.75 million per season, Domi was considered to be untradeable. Quite frankly, he was unusable at times and needed to be a healthy scratch.
However, the forward is currently on a heater. It is interesting timing, especially when you consider how the Leafs are nowhere near the postseason.
That said, Domi is playing on the first line with Auston Matthews, and he is certainly finding some success, which is definitely nice to see.

Max Domi is coming into his own

In the last eight games, Domi has managed four goals and six assists for a total of 10 points. He now has 30 points this season and has finally found his touch.
Unfortunately, this might not last much longer, and there is a very good reason for that, especially with the trade deadline on the horizon.
Simply put, the Leafs are likely to be sellers at the deadline, and when it comes to players like Domi, who have a high salary, the Leafs must sell when he's playing well.
If they were to trade him now as opposed to later, they could get better trade value. It's a tough situation to be in, but it's absolutely true.
Not to mention, they would not need to retain as much salary. The Leafs have very difficult decisions to make, and Domi is part of that.
This will be a fascinating trade deadline, and Domi is a player that we are going to have to watch out for.
