Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nicolas Roy is a player who has been solid while centering the third line, and there have been questions about his trade value.
Let's face it, the Toronto Maple Leafs are not doing anything this season. They are 10 points back of a playoff spot, and for the most part, they look awful.
With that being said, the trade deadline is coming up, and there is a feeling that the Maple Leafs are going to become sellers.
If they do become sellers, they will have to give up some of their roster players in order to get some solid assets. One of those players could be forward Nicolas Roy.
Center depth is always coveted by playoff contenders, which means Roy is someone who could fetch a nice return for general manager Brad Treliving.
What could the Toronto Maple Leafs get for Nicolas Roy?
According to James Mirtle and Chris Johnston of The Athletic, Nicolas Roy is so coveted that he could get the Leafs a roster player, a second-round pick, and a prospect.
It is hard to believe when you consider how Roy has just 18 points this season. However, it's a lot like Scott Laughton last year, whom the Leafs paid a first-rounder for.
They compare Roy to Charlie Coyle, who fetched a similar return. If this is the return for Roy, then the Leafs have to do this deal.
A second-round pick and a prospect could go a long way for the Maple Leafs, who are starving for these kinds of assets right now.
It would not be an easy decision to make, but Treliving is feeling the pressure, and selling seems like the right move.
Over the coming weeks, we will be keeping an eye on the Leafs, who very clearly need to do something to fix their season.
