Earlier this morning, Darren Dreger dropped off a bombshell report about Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube, and it is now being disputed by Jonas Siegel.
After a loss to the Dallas Stars on Sunday night, there was a narrative going around that Craig Berube would be fired by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Earlier this morning, TSN insider Darren Dreger attempted to dispel that narrative by revealing that the Leafs were not looking to make any immediate changes at the coaching position.
This came as a surprise to some, especially since the Leafs are fresh off a three-game road trip in which they failed to pick up a single point.
While Darren Dreger isn't convinced that the Leafs will make a coaching change, there is at least one Maple Leafs beat reporter who believes the opposite.
Jonas Siegel on Craig Berube potentially being fired
Jonas Siegel of The Athletic is claiming that a Berube firing is still very much possible, and that it could happen as soon as this week.
This reporting is in direct contradiction to what Darren Dreger has already stated, which is interesting to note. One has to wonder who each of these reporter's sources is.
I would not be surprised if we see a coaching change this week
The Toronto Maple Leafs need to fix something, and the easiest thing to do right now is to fire the head coach and try to find someone who can align with this team's skill set.
Berube's system has completely neutered offensive juggernauts like Auston Matthews and William Nylander. That can't continue to be the case.
This week is a weird one, seeing as though it is Christmas. With that in mind, perhaps a decision on Berube could happen in the New Year, especially if the team keeps losing.
