The Toronto Maple Leafs' Latest Goalie Signing Spells Bad News for Joseph Woll's Return Timeline

Earlier today, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed James Reimer to a PTO, and if you read between the lines, this is very bad news for goaltender Joseph Woll.
Joseph Woll is currently in the midst of a leave of absence from the Toronto Maple Leafs. His absence is an indefinite one, and there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding him right now.
As a result, there had been all sorts of speculation that the team would either claim a goalie off waivers or sign someone to a PTO.
In the end, the team went the PTO route as they officially signed former goaltender James Reimer to a new deal that could see him become the team's backup.
James Reimer gets a PTO and it's bad for Joseph Woll
Of course, fans are pretty excited about this signing, as Reimer is someone who spent the first six seasons of his career in Toronto.
His time with the team was fairly hit or miss, but he is still a guy that a lot of fans have some nostalgia for, and rightfully so.
Unfortunately, this signing does force us to read between the lines. If the Leafs feel the need to sign a goalie to a PTO, it means that Joseph Woll is probably going to be out for a while.
We don't expect him to be gone for just a couple of weeks. Instead, it feels like his absence could last a month or even longer.
Overall, this is a pretty devastating state of affairs for the Leafs, who are also showing Dennis Hildeby that they don't trust him to be the team's backup.
While an official announcement has not been made about Woll, one can't help but assume the worst given the current circumstances.
Hopefully, Woll is okay, and Reimer can showcase him to be someone the Maple Leafs want to keep around for a while.
