Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews is currently dealing with a lower-body injury, and in the midst of this, there are all sorts of fears about his return.
The nature of Matthews' injury is unknown, and while he has been skating over the last few days, fans are wondering if this is the same injury that kept him from being 100 percent last season.
When is Auston Matthews coming back?
During yesterday evening's airing of TSN 1050 "OverDrive," insider Chris Johnston spoke about Matthews' injury and revealed what exactly is going on.
While the insider can't give a diagnosis or an exact timeline, he can say that Matthews is currently dealing with a muscle injury and needs some rest.
It's a muscle type of injury, I was told. One that responds to rest.
At this juncture, it is still impossible to say when he is going to be back. He is simply going to have to keep skating and see how he feels from there.
Maple Leafs injuries pile up
This has been a nightmarish time for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are dealing with all sorts of injuries right now. Matthew Knies, Nicolas Roy, Brandon Carlo, Chris Tanev, and Matthews are all out of the lineup right now.
It's one of those situations that has left the Leafs depleted, and it should come as no surprise that they are losing games right now. After all, Calle Jarnkrok started on the first line last night.
On Saturday, the Maple Leafs play the Montreal Canadiens, and if they don't get some of their players back, then they could be in some major trouble.
