Toronto Maple Leafs Defenseman to Undergo Wrist Surgery
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Marshall Rifai got injured against the Montreal Canadiens, and now, he has been forced to get surgery.
Last night, defenseman Marshall Rifai was in the Maple Leafs lineup for a preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Midway through the game, Rifai suffered an upper-body injury and had to leave the game, only to never return.
It was a concerning sight, and some felt as though it spelled the end of Rifai's hopes of making the Toronto Maple Leafs roster this season.
Marshall Rifai injury update
Earlier today, Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube offered up an update on Rifai that is not going to go over well with fans.
Essentially, the defenseman is going to need to get wrist surgery in order to recover from this injury. At this time, his timeline is unknown.
Overall, this injury likely means that Rifai will have to start the year with the Toronto Marlies, which is what many were expecting anyway.
Regardless, this is a very disappointing update, and we are sad to see Rifai go through this during what was a promising preseason.
The Maple Leafs are set to make some cuts soon, and unfortunately, the defenseman will be part of those by default.
Hopefully, he is able to get an opportunity with the franchise at some point during the regular season. Although he will have to rely on injuries to others.
Our thoughts go out to Marshall Rifai as he deals with this injury. We hope he is able to make a quick recovery.
