Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan is looking to make the team for the first time in his career, and as a result, one fourth-liner may get the boot.

Easton Cowan has played in three straight preseason games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he has looked incredibly impressive so far.
His production has been solid, and on Thursday, he played on a line with Steven Lorentz and Scott Laughton. Of course, these two players will be on the fourth line this season, and Cowan could be a candidate to play with them this season.
The young forward immediately showed tremendous chemistry, especially with Laughton and Lorentz scoring two goals each in a 7-2 win against the Montreal Canadiens.
Fans are clamoring for Cowan to make the roster, and new reporting from Chris Johnston of TSN suggests the Leafs are motivated to give him that chance.

Easton Cowan is about to force a Toronto Maple Leafs forward out

In order for Cowan to be on the roster, the Leafs would need to put a forward on waivers. Nick Robertson, Calle Jarnkrok, and David Kampf are all candidates for this treatment.
According to Johnston, it seems as though the Leafs are thinking of putting Kampf on waivers, as his offense, or lack thereof, is the most distressing.
The reality is, some kind of player is going on waivers for the Leafs. I think Kampf is the obvious one to being on the bubble. If worse comes to worse and there is no other way to reduce the forward group by one, then you put someone on waivers and send them to the Marlies.
The Maple Leafs have an abundance of forwards, and there is no doubt that Cowan is a better player than Kampf.
Furthermore, Cowan has the chance to move up the lineup. He has a ton of skill, and the fans are eager to see what he can do.
Hopefully, the Maple Leafs make the right decision and prioritize development over everything else.
