Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares spoke to the media after a 4-0 loss to the Washington Capitals, and the fans are no longer buying what is being sold.

John Tavares and the Toronto Maple Leafs have had their struggles this season, and it is starting to get to a point where some believe the season is lost.
Last night's shutout loss to the Washington Capitals was a great example of how the Leafs have played this season, without any passion and without any rhyme or reason.
The team is now one point out of last place in the Atlantic Division, and it is starting to feel like all hope is lost, which is the last thing you would have expected when the season started.

John Tavares on the Toronto Maple Leafs

After last night's game, Tavares spoke to the media, and it was here where he delivered some comments about how the Leafs are still close to being in a good place.
Clearly we're not in the spot we want to be in, but we're not far off from being in a really good spot. We just have to realize, night in and night out, how much more consistent we have to be with our game.
Quite frankly, fans are sick of hearing stuff like this. The Leafs are not in a good place, and with the Nashville Predators and Dallas Stars coming up, it feels like it's only going to get worse.

Toronto Maple Leafs fans react

In fact, Tavares angered fans so much last night with his comments that some are beginning to turn on him, noting that this mentality has plagued the team for years.
Many noted how Tavares has never won anything in the NHL, and that at this stage, he has a loser's mentality. Not something you want to hear about a star player.
With 30 points in 33 games, Tavares is having a good season, but the last few games have been tough with a rotating cast of linemates.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs and Tavares can get things together sooner rather than later.
