The Toronto Maple Leafs have lost seven of their last eight, and things got even worse this afternoon as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Carolina Hurricanes.

If there is one thing for certain about the Toronto Maple Leafs right now, it is that they have largely struggled throughout the season so far.
They are dealing with an absurd number of injuries, and it has left the team in shambles. After a loss to the Montreal Canadiens last night, they have a record of 1-5-2 in their last eight games.
As of last night, the Leafs were seventh in the Atlantic Division standings. However, they were just one point out of last place. The team keeping them from the bottom of the barrel was the Buffalo Sabres, who were playing the Carolina Hurricanes earlier this afternoon.

Toronto Maple Leafs fall to last in the Atlantic Division

Unfortunately, for the Maple Leafs, the Sabres won their game against the Carolina Hurricanes and have officially leapfrogged the Leafs by one point.
With a record of 9-10-3, the Toronto Maple Leafs have just 21 points, and find themselves five points out of third place, which would guarantee them a playoff spot.
Of course, this isn't a massive deficit by any means. It is something the Leafs could overcome if they started to string some wins together.
The Maple Leafs will have a few days off, as their next game is scheduled for Wednesday in Columbus against the Blue Jackets, who have had their number so far.
From there, the Leafs will play the Washington Capitals on Friday and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. These games are all on the road, and it only gets more difficult next week with games against the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes.
With this three-day break, the Leafs could use this as an opportunity to get healthy. As it stands, Anthony Stolarz, Auston Matthews, Brandon Carlo, Chris Tanev, Matthew Knies, and Nicolas Roy remain out of the lineup.
If they can't get these players back, then the Leafs are going to be in trouble. Their opponents are getting stronger, and for now, they are only getting weaker.
