Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson went down with an injury against the Detroit Red Wings, and fans aren't feeling good about it.
Tonight is critical for the Toronto Maple Leafs as they are playing against the Detroit Red Wings with hopes of getting into a playoff spot.
If they want to avoid the Wild Card round altogether, the Red Wings are a team that they need to defeat. After all, the Wings are currently second in the Atlantic Division.
With that being said, tonight's game just got a whole lot harder, as the Maple Leafs' best defenseman this season just went down with an injury.
That defenseman is none other than Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and they are saying that this is a lower-body injury.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson is not coming back tonight
In fact, it was revealed that Ekman-Larsson will not be returning to tonight's game, which is absolutely devastating for this team right now.
The Leafs cannot afford to lose more defenseman, and now, they are going to have to be without a guy like OEL, who is a beast and a workhorse.
If you are rooting for the Leafs, you cannot help but be dejected by this news, as the defensive injuries continue to pile up.
The entire lineup has been decimated by this stuff, and it really does feel as though the Maple Leafs are going to have to overcome something insurmountable.
Tonight's game can still be won, but it is going to be that much harder, and we really do feel for the roster right about now.
At the time of writing this, the score is 1-1 near the end of the second period.
