Training camp is about to wrap up, and with the Toronto Maple Leafs set to go on a trip to Muskoka, the team has decided on some pretty major roster cuts.

Today, the Toronto Maple Leafs had a huge practice with an NHL-ready roster that included a couple of surprises that fans will enjoy.
For instance, Easton Cowan was playing on the fourth line with Steven Lorentz and Scott Laughton. Meanwhile, Nick Robertson, David Kampf, and Calle Jarnkrok were relegated to the fifth line.
This led to speculation that cuts could be coming, as the Maple Leafs don't really have space for any more players. Only two preseason games remain, and they don't need to overcrowd their space.

Toronto Maple Leafs cut 30 players to the Toronto Marlies

Just moments ago, the Maple Leafs announced that they would be cutting a total of 30 players down to the Toronto Marlies.
Those players include goalies like Artur Akhtyamov, while defenseman like John Prokop and Noah Chadwick are also being sent down. Forwards like Luke Haymes are Jacob Quillan are unfortunately being cut, but we expected this from the start.
The following players have been assigned to the Toronto Marlies (AHL):

Forwards: B. Baddock, M. Barbolini, G. Fontaine, L. Grainger, L. Haymes, R. Johnson, M. Johnstone, B. King, R. Kirwan, B. Kressler, A. Nylander, C. Pare, J. Quillan, N. Rheaume, L. Shaw, L. Sim, M. Sikic, S. Stevens, R. Tverberg, B. Valis

Defencemen: N. Chadwick, R. McCleary, R. Parsons, J. Prokop, C. Sharpe, B. Smith, C. Webber

Goaltenders: K. Appleby, A. Akhtyamov, V. Peksa
This is a massive roster depletion, but it makes sense when you consider there was just an overabundance of players on the Leafs.
They need to cut guys, especially with the main roster players proving that they belong with the team for another season.
It will be interesting to see which of these Marlies players are able to prove themselves throughout the season and end up on the roster due to injuries.
If we had to guess, guys like Haymes and Quillan will be making some appearances throughout the upcoming season.
