Toronto Maple Leafs miss golden opportunity to add forward depth

The Toronto Maple Leafs were one of the teams in consideration for a waivers pick-up on Wednesday, especially with the NHL roster freeze coming.
With the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to become sellers at the trade deadline, there is no denying that they need some depth to fill out the roster.
Waivers tend to be a good place to start, as there are always NHL-calibre guys hitting the wire due to overcrowding on their current teams.
On Tuesday, we saw that with former Maple Leafs forward Sammy Blais, who got to play a total of eight games with the Leafs this season.
The Montreal Canadiens put the forward on waivers, and the Leafs had the perfect opportunity to go out and bring a guy in just in case.
Sammy Blais passed over by the Maple Leafs
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, that is not happening. Blais cleared waivers and is now going to the Laval Rocket.
Blais already has nine games with the Rocket this season and has nine points. Clearly, his AHL point production is impressive.
At this point, it doesn't look like the Maple Leafs are going to make any moves prior to the NHL roster freeze at 3 PM EST.
The Leafs want to make some moves, but it doesn't look like making such a move right now is what is right for the Leafs squad.
Either way, this is going to be a fascinating month ahead, especially as we get to watch some premium Olympic hockey.
We will be rooting for Canada, which means rooting for players we typically root against.
