Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has struggled so far this season, and according to Howard Berger, he might be on his way out sooner than expected.

Craig Berube is someone who has received his fair share of criticism over the first 25 games of the Toronto Maple Leafs' season. With a record of 11-11-3, the criticism is certainly fair game.
So far, the team has not been particularly compelling under Berube. They have struggled against bad teams and have been downright unplayable against good teams.
While their 7-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins was a step in the right direction, there is still a lot of skepticism surrounding whether or not this is a good team.
In fact, there have been rumblings that Berube could be gone if he doesn't turn things around. Fans are even suggesting that he get replaced by either John Tortorella or Peter DeBoer.

Will the Maple Leafs fire Craig Berube?

According to reporter Howard Berger, it would appear as though the Maple Leafs have already taken some steps towards replacing their head coach.
In a post on X, Berger claims a representative from the Leafs has reached out to DeBoer to gauge his interest. It's unclear whether or not DeBoer was interested or not.
If one thing is certain right now, it is that the Leafs need to start getting more offense. They also need better play from their defensemen, who are leaving the goalie out to dry.
It's been tough to watch this season, and the injuries are not helping anyone. One has to wonder if Christmas and the New Year will be the litmus test for whether or not this Leafs team can be successful.
Once they get Brandon Carlo, Chris Tanev, and Anthony Stolarz back, then the fun can officially begin. A healthy team is one that you can actually evaluate.
As for DeBoer, there is no denying he is a great coach. Trouble is, Berube has a Stanley Cup, and DeBoer doesn't.
