Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander drew the anger of the NHL community, and now, he is looking to apologize for his bad behavior.
William Nylander is one of the best players in the NHL, but if one thing is for certain, it is that he can be impulsive and, at times, shortsighted.
That was on full display today as the forward was spending today's Colorado Avalanche game in the press box.
When the TSN camera fell upon him, he decided to flash the middle finger, which was seen as the ultimate form of disrespect.
In fact, there is now a sense that NHL Player Safety is going to come through and deliver a fine or even worse, suspension.
William Nylander apologizes
With this controversy in mind, Nylander decided to address the fans and offer up an apology for giving the finger at such a bad time.
Only love for Leafs Nation. Sorry about my moment of frustration today! Didn't mean to upset anyone. Looking forward to being back on the ice and not in the stands. Love Willy.
If you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, you are probably feeling at least a tiny bit embarrassed about the behavior from Nylander here.
At the end of the day, this is just poor form from him. He needs to know better than to do this kind of thing in such a brazen way.
Whether or not he is held accountable by the league is something that still very much remains to be seen.
Whatever the case may be, he is not setting a good example, especially as one of the faces of the franchise.
