Alex Ovechkin was wearing a mic during today's game and as such his plan to score the record-breaking goal has been revealed.

Just about everyone in the NHL was anticipating Alex Ovechkin's record-breaking goal today.
After he tied Wayne Gretzky with goal number 894 last game, all eyes shifted to New York today.
This was made evident by the fact that resale ticket prices skyrocket for the game after it became clear Ovechkin would likely break the record during it.
Low and behold, he actually did it, scoring career goal number 895 on the powerplay in the middle period.
Since Ovechkin was wearing a mic for the game, we got to hear not only his celebration, but also his plan going into the powerplay.
As Ovi and his teammates were preparing for the offensive zone draw, he skated to defenseman John Carlsson, telling him he would pass it to him, and the plan was for Carlsson to one-touch pass it back.
However, things did not actually go that way. Instead, Dylan Strome carried the puck through neutral ice, passing it to Tom Wilson who gained the zone.
Wilson then sent a long pass across the dots to Ovechkin who was charging down the left wing.
The pass connected and Ovechkin caught it and dragged it into a powerful wrist shot, beating Ilya Sorokin on the short side.
Luckily, there is nothing a salty social media admin can do to take away from this historic moment in Ovechkin's career.
It was the Islanders who got the last laugh though as they finished out the game, beating the Capitals by a final score of 4-1, keeping their slim playoff hopes alive.
Next year very well may be the last for Ovechkin as it is the last under his current contract with the Capitals, so be sure to enjoy watching him play while we still can.
